Plet Bolipata's "The Hummingbird"

The Center for Art, New Ventures & Sustainable Development (CANVAS) is proud to present "The Hummingbird," an exhibition of recent works by artist Plet Bolipata. These highly anticipated pieces shall be used as illustrations for a Japanese eco-fable with the same title which shall be published by CANVAS as part of a full-color trilogy of environmental short stories later this year.

"The Hummingbird" is Bolipata's first show since she returned from her art residency as a Freeman Fellow at the Vermont Studio Center in the United States. The show features her whimsical and colorful style through mixed media which includes an oil and collage on linen artwork, and five limited edition digital art pieces. This marks Plet's return to oil and her initial foray into new media.

Plet Bolipata currently resides in San Antonio, Zambales with husband-painter Elmer Borlongan.

* Plet's digital artworks are limited edition photographic prints on metallic paper. Only eight (8) pieces will be produced for each of the five images. The price for each print, depending on size, ranges from P10,000.00 to P12,000.00. Each piece is framed with glass, and will be individually signed by the artist.

The story, and all other images can be viewed here. For more information, please call 901-3152 or email delan@canvas.ph.

Kristo Exhibit: 'Into Thy Hands'

The "Kristo" exhibits in Malolos, Bulacan was pioneered by Salvador Ching as part of his 'panata.' He annually invited fellow artists in this Lenten offering, featuring works that serve as their reflections on the passion of Christ.

In 2005, The Artery brought the Lenten art show to Manila for the first time as "Sabachthani," a highly lauded gathering of 46 emergent and established visual artists.

Last year over 50 artists participated in "Behold," the second noted Lenten offering.

This year, the presentation is dubbed "Into Thy Hands," taken from Christ's last words when with His last breath, He offered His spirit to God the Father. It is an invitation to viewers to affirm their faith in surrendering their very beings to the Almighty just as Christ gave His life for the salvation of man.

Participating artists are Agang, Hermes Alegre, Nune Alvarado, Jun Alvarez, Felix Amoncio, Jovito Andres, Ral Arrogante, Julio Austria, Virgilio Aviado, Yeye Babatuan, Aris Bagtas, Anton Balao, Jeps Belen, Art Bermido, Remy Boquiren, Angel Cacnio, Michael Cacnio, Froilan
